DRIVE A V-12 LEGEND
This BMW is finished in Calypso Red Metallic as an 850i with gray leather interior for US Market.
It is a family-owned 12 cylinder version of the 8 series which was hailed as a halo car for BMW at that time.
The car has 71k original miles and is in almost perfect visual condition. It has the rare “turbine” original wheels. The car is 100% original, including the BMW branded car phone. Only 3,347 of these cars were made for the United States market.
Purchased as 2nd owner from Laurel BMW of Westmont IL with under 10,000 miles in 1992. It was driven in summers until 1996 when it was relocated to Las Vegas.
Car drives great, is very quiet, shifts well (4 speed automatic) and very well-maintained. Recent maintenance from independent BMW service center some wear items replaced including both batteries, radiator, replacement MID ( Multi-informational display), new hoses, thermostats, windshield wipers, and transmission flush. Also A/C recharged and blows very cold. Passed smog with no problems. It was mostly driven in winters in Las Vegas (swapped with antique convertible Cadillac for the summer).
KNOWN ISSUES:
- Sunroof makes creaking noises – probably needs to be looked at
- Passenger seat rails misaligned, needs adjustment
- Gas Door spring broken (new part secured but needs to be installed)
- Seats in great condition, however noted fade (usually for these cars)

THE BMW ART CARS PROJECT
The BMW Art Cars project began in 1975, transforming BMW models into art by renowned artists like Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and David Hockney. These iconic artists used the cars as canvases, blending art and technology, creating mobile masterpieces that showcase both artistic vision and automotive design. Cars are primarily held and displayed at the BMW Museum in Munich, Germany. However, they are occasionally loaned out for special exhibitions and events at museums and galleries around the world. Some of these cars have also been displayed at prestigious art and car shows, such as Art Basel and major international auto shows. The collection is treated as a blend of both art and automotive history.
